Local Non-Profit BHC SAINT Offers Resources to Pet Owners
BHC SAINT (Saving Animals in Need Together) was founded by Jeanne Brook and Sue DeMarco in 2009. This was initially driven by Jeanne, when she saw an article on the front page of the Mohave Daily News detailing a story about a young healthy female Pit Bull who, in the picture, was being euthanized for space at the then, high kill, Bullhead City Animal Shelter.
Jeanne and Sue began sitting in front of local businesses asking for donations and support so they could apply to be a 501(c)3, in which they succeeded in doing (EIN 80-0343139). This was the beginning of SAINT’s mission to “improve the lives of animals”, in part, by reducing the number of litters born through spay/neuter vouchers and subsidizing a portion of the surgeries if funds allowed. By focusing on the overpopulation of animals being born, it would decrease the intake into the shelter and lessen the need for euthanasia.
Fast forward to today, SAINT has multiple programs that serves the surrounding communities:
Raymond Hilton Fund – provides $50.00 vouchers toward spay/neuter for dogs and cats.
Saving Lives Program – foster and foster to adopt program which allows us to pull at risk animals from the shelter and place in a home. When fostering for SAINT, all expenses are paid. In return the foster provides a loving and secure home.
Ron Jenner Pet Medical Emergency Fund – assists pet owners pay for urgent lifesaving medical care and procedures to save the lives of their companion animals.
SAINT is a 100% volunteer/foster based and is funded solely by donations from the public, businesses and fundraising events. We have had the honor of partnering with other local animal non-profits such as We Care for Animals BHC, Pet Angel Foundation and Food 4 Paws to offer special events to our community. This included a Pet Resource Fair held last Spring to offer information, pet food and pet supplies all for free to our community.
Currently we have partnered with Pet Angel Foundation and Humane Society of Mohave County Animal Medical Center for a special spay program for female dogs and cats. This special greatly reduces the cost of spay surgeries. In conjunction, SAINT’s $50 voucher is still available for neuter of male dog and cats.
Donna Doyel, President of BHC SAINT, “I am honored to be a part of this amazing organization along side other dedicated volunteers. We have accomplished so much, but there is always more to do, and we will be there to support our communities and their pets”. SAINT was recently recognized as one of the Final Four for the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce Community Achievement Awards under the category of Social Service Organization Award. Winners will be announced November 2, 2024.
Since 2009 SAINT has placed over 500 animals into loving forever homes and spay/neutered over 3,000 pets. SAINT’s medical emergency fund raises and spends approximately $30-40,000.00 annually helping animals recover from life threatening situations to lead long lives.
