Value Added and Organic Workshops Offered December 7 at Fallon Food Hub

$18 Million Nationally for Value Added Producer Grant; Applications Due Jan. 24, 2018

(Carson City, Nev.-Nov. 9, 2017) Are you an agricultural producer/agricultural producer group wanting to add value to your existing agricultural production?  If so, you may benefit from USDA Rural Development's upcoming Value Added Producer Grant workshop Thursday, Dec. 7 in Fallon, Nevada. Nationally, USDA Rural Development has $18 million available for the Value Added Producer Grant (VAPG) that requires a 1-to-1 match (50 percent of total project costs) cash or eligible in-kind contributions.  The paper application deadline is Jan. 31, 2018 and the electronic Grants.gov application deadline for submission is Jan. 24, 2018.
 
USDA Rural Development and Basin and Range Organics are providing the workshop to help producers better understand both the Value Added Producer Grant and the process to be certified organic. The free workshops will start at 9:00 a.m. and will be held on the second floor of the Fallon Food Hub, 40 E. Center Street, Fallon Nevada. 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. VAPG Workshop: a program initiated to support rural prosperity for agricultural producers by helping them expand their markets. VAPGs can fund feasibility studies and planning activities, or working capital expenses to enable viable Ag Producers to produce and market Value-Added agricultural products and to create marketing opportunities for such businesses.

1:00-2:30 p.m. VAPG Application Toolkit Assistance (Optional): USDA Rural Development Business Programs Specialist Michelle Kelly will assist those interested in applying with the application toolkit and requirements.
 
2:30-5:00 p.m. Basic Organics 101: Marcia Litsinger, board member of Basin and Range Organics will provide an overview of the state's new Organic Certification process.
 
The workshops are co-sponsored by USDA Rural Development Nevada, the Small Business Development Center - Reno, Churchill Economic Development Authority, Basin and Range Organics, Made in Nevada and the Fallon Food Hub.
