The 11th Annual Connie Davis 5k Walk & Roll: A Success Story of Community Support

The 11th Annual Connie Davis 5k Walk & Roll, held on Saturday, March 2nd at the Pyramid Canyon at North Reach Heritage Trails, proved to be a resounding success, thanks to the overwhelming support and participation from the community.

Participants were treated to a delightful morning, starting with the melodious tunes of Billy Kay while enjoying a scrumptious breakfast provided by Cinnabon. Following the walk, graciously sponsored by the Laughlin Tourism Commission, attendees relished a picnic lunch amidst the picturesque surroundings.

The event offered a myriad of engaging activities, including a rock-painting session organized by the River Valley Artist’s Guild for the Tree of Hope & Life. Additionally, local businesses such as Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, University of Nevada, Reno, and River Fund, Inc. set up informative booths, enriching the experience for all attendees.

Capturing the essence of the day was Leslie Chester of Firafly Photography, the Official Event Photographer, who diligently trailed behind the walkers to immortalize the best moments. Participants can relive the memories by accessing Leslie’s captivating images from the Connie Davis 5k Walk & Roll for Cancer on Firafly Photography’s official website.

Highlighting the spirit of camaraderie, trophies were awarded to the largest teams in participation - 'Riverside Strong' claimed the trophy for the largest business team, representing Riverside Resort, while 'The Dice Girls' secured the trophy for the largest 'Friends & Family' team for the second consecutive year.

Emphasizing inclusivity, the event, with 'roll' added to its name in 2018, encouraged participation from individuals with disabilities, whether assisted or independent. The organizers extend an open invitation to companies, organizations, neighbors, and clubs to join hands and make this annual tradition a resounding success.

The funds raised through participant entry fees, inclusive of a t-shirt and goodie bag, contribute significantly to the noble cause. Proceeds from the event are dedicated to the River Fund, Inc. Cancer Connection (RFICC), extending unwavering support to individuals battling cancer within the Colorado River Region.

Despite falling short of the ambitious goal of "600+ walkers," the event witnessed a surge in donations, matching previous years' contributions, owing to the generosity of participants. Special appreciation is extended to the Laughlin Chamber’s Volunteers In Partnership (VIP’s) for their invaluable contributions, including a generous donation of $1k to RFICC.

The cumulative fundraising efforts culminated in a remarkable achievement, with the event raising a total of $12k, a testament to the community's unwavering commitment and support. The Laughlin Chamber extends heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors and volunteers for their invaluable contributions, ensuring the event's success.
Looking ahead, the organizers invite prospective sponsors to explore sponsorship opportunities for the upcoming 12th Annual Connie Davis 5K Walk & Roll in March 2025. For further details, interested parties are encouraged to reach out via email at Michelle@laughlinchamber.com.
