State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Grants Available for Nevada Small Businesses

The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) through a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) STEP Program is accepting applications.  Qualifying businesses can complete an application and apply for a grant in the amount of up to $10,000.  Services provided to ‘eligible small business concerns,’ offer support for participation in foreign trade missions and market sales trips, subscription to services provided by the Department of Commerce, design of international marketing products and campaigns, export trade show exhibits, training, and other aligned efforts.
Nevada is taking steps to reopen the economy which involves assisting small, export ready businesses fund activities that will prepare them for when trade normalizes. The SBA has adapted regulations and policy to encourage virtual tools to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while also allowing businesses to resume some international trade initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to: virtual service offerings, virtual trade shows, export research tools, online export trainings, etc.
Joseph Amato, SBA District Director Nevada stated: “Small business must take advantage of the various opportunities available to them during the recovery phase, post COVID-19. These government programs can make a difference in the recovery process as businesses strive to find economic stability and profitability.”

STEP provides financial awards to state and territory government to assist small businesses with export development. Nevada GOED was awarded $257,914 in fiscal year 2020.
