STATEMENT FROM NEVADA ASSEMBLY SPEAKER JASON FRIERSON

Urges Nevadans to fill out census forms from home to secure billions in funding for Nevada

Nevadans across the state are looking out for their communities by taking responsible precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In that same spirit of community, I want to urge all Nevadans to participate in the 2020 Census so that we can secure our fair share of over $67 billion in federal funding.

In this period of caution and restraint, the one thing we all can do to help our state and local communities is fill out the census. It is easy to complete from the comfort of your home and is safe, confidential, and quick. You can complete it online at www.census.nv.gov, over the phone (844-330-2020; for Spanish 844-468-2020), or by returning the paper questionnaire you receive in the mail.

Participating from home helps keep everyone safe–residents and census workers alike.

State of Nevada Assembly Eightieth Session

If every resident participates, we stand to receive approximately $2,000 per person each year in federal funding over the next ten years, which support community health, safety, and education. Specifically, these federal dollars help Nevadans everyday through:

- Medicaid; - Medicare; - Nutrition and transportation services for seniors; - Financial support for health care clinics and hospitals; - Head Start; - Career and technical education grants; - Vocational rehabilitation grants; and - Highway planning and construction.

For those residents who do not receive mail through the United States Postal Service, do not have access to a computer or Wi-Fi at your home, or require in-person assistance filling out the questionnaire, please call 844-330-2020 (in Spanish 844-468-2020).

In the meantime, Nevadans can access www.census.nv.gov and www.nvhealthresponse.nv.gov for updates about the 2020 Census and guidance on how to protect themselves and their communities from coronavirus.
