“SOUND OF MUSIC” IS MHS
BROADWAY IN BULLHEAD” MUSICAL

BULLHEAD CITY – Mohave High School continues its annual tradition of bringing Broadway performances to the Tri-State area when “The Sound of Music” debuts Wednesday night.  There are five shows open to the public and one just for students.
The public performances are April 11 (Wednesday) through April 14 (Saturday) at 7:00 p.m., as well as a Saturday matinee at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are $3 for students and $7 for adults.
The Mohave High performance is a fine arts collaboration both within and outside the school.  It is under the direction of Mohave’s high school drama teacher Lori Garner, with choir director Cameron Pruett and Mohave Thunder band teacher Michelle Ribelin providing the vocal and instrumental direction.  Because of the number of young children needed, a casting call was opened to include students in other area schools and school districts.
With music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, “The Sound of Music” has been hailed as one of the most beloved musicals of all time.  The 1959 stage version, originated by Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, differs slightly from the 1965 film version, made famous by Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.  A 2013 live televised performance with Carrie Underwood and Audra McDonald featured the stage version, earning “The Sound of Music” a place in history as a so-called “EGOT” winner: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, as well as Golden Globe, Awards.
Mohave High School’s best-known fine arts alumnus are Seamus Dever, who has co-starred as Detective Kevin Ryan in the ABC series Castle, and Nicole Tubiola, who co-starred as Danielle Davis in the ABC Family series WildfireA more recent MHS graduate, J.D. Gish, recently completed a lead role in the Phoenix stage version of Disney’s Newsies, following his widely-acclaimed 2014 lead in the Mohave production of Phantom of the Opera; Gish launched a CD last year with a debut concert in Bullhead City.
Sound of Music tickets are available at the Mohave High School box office prior to show time.  Additional information is available at 928-758-3916, ext. 1247.
