MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College is encouraging people to apply now and select from list of more than 500 fall semester classes. The first classes start on August 24.

To help keep students and employees healthy during the pandemic, MCC instructors have developed Remote classrooms. A video explaining what students can expect in the Remote classes can be viewed on the college YouTube Channel at YouTube.com/MohaveCCvideos. 

The new Remote classes bring the atmosphere of on campus classrooms to a live virtual setting, and may also include a combination of on campus and online learning experiences. All of the general education classes will have a Remote learning component.

“You will be able to access your professor and your classroom just like if you would if you were to come to the classroom physically,” Jacob Crawford, MCC Art Instructor said. “You can contact me via chat so I can see comments and information or you can ask a question directly so I would be just as accessible as if we were in the same room.” 

Students are able to have a learning environment that is as close to being face-to-face in the same classroom as you can get, while not being in the same room or even the same city.  “Remote learning brings students that raucous, enjoyable, fun learning environment that you would get in the classroom on campus,” said MCC English Instructor Dr. Trever Holland.

Holland, Crawford and Abigail Jaimes-Gomez are instructors featured in the MCC video to help explain the benefits, differences and similarities between Remote, Online and On Campus classes.

“We’ve found that some students tend to work better in Remote settings, because they get a blend of what we would typically see in an online class, in an on ground structure,” said Jaimes-Gomez, MCC Transitional Math Instructor. 

Students can take the remote and online classes from the comfort of their own home, or wherever they have an internet connection.  Students without wireless internet can always use the college WiFi, which has been extended to include all the campus parking lots.  Remote classes aren’t the only way students will learn the material they need to know for their future careers, online and on-campus classes are still being offered.  

Some on-campus classes started up again during the summer and will continue in the fall because they require hands-on learning time. On-campus classes follow CDC health guidelines, including mandatory face coverings and social distancing.

Mohave Community College brings many significant positive benefits to Mohave County, and since 1971 has helped 61,000 residents earn more than 100,000 associate degrees and/or higher education certificates.  

Market research shows that MCC graduates earn $725,600 more throughout their individual careers than those individuals in Mohave County with only a high school diploma. MCC graduates enter career fields in which they earn between $42,640 to $65,000 thousand a year on average, compared to those in the Mohave County region with only a high school diploma who earn $24,500 per year on average. 

MCC Alumni Timothy Gardner took a break from school after earning his high school diploma and decided he needed to do something to further his life. He enrolled in MCC and earned his Associates in Computer Information Systems.  

“The job I have currently requires a degree and all of the information I learned at MCC through my computer classes helped with adjusting to the work environment I’m in today,” Gardner said. 

Gardner is currently working at Kingman Unified School District as a computer technician and has been for five years.
