JAN’S CLOSET GETS A MAJOR MAKEOVER
“Clothes aren’t going to change the world, but the people who wear them will!”
Since 2017, Jan’s Closet has been helping community members of all ages dress to the nines for all special occasions in life. We want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to attend those magical events that are a right-of-passage into adulthood; Homecoming, Prom, Weddings, Quinceaneras, Ceremonies of Life. These are all more than just a dance. These events create memories which last a lifetime and are milestones that require special attire.
Unfortunately, there are many students who will miss these opportunities because they don’t have the resources to purchase formal attire. Jan’s Closet was created with the intention to fill this gap.  After much thought and hard-work it was determined that the best way to achieve this goal is a voucher system.
Previously Jan’s Closet was housed in a small room inside the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center, it was cramped, and students had to schedule a time to visit which was difficult.
Starting next week local high schools will receive vouchers, good for a formal dress, suit and shoes.  Students who need attire for a special event can redeem these certificates at either of the Boys & Girls Club Thrift Stores.
Going forward all formal attire will be available at the Club’s thrift stores.  Students can shop and  redeem their vouchers, as well as customers, will have the options to purchase.  This allows the students to enjoy a shopping trip without any awkwardness, plus a better selection and rotation of attire.
“We are excited about this new process we will be able to help so many more students, giving them a dress, building confidence, and making memories.  This is a great improvement for the program.”  Stated Autumn Boyle Robinson Club CEO
Jan’s Closet is named in honor of a wonderful woman Jan Barrios who was an amazing, caring, community minded woman who always made everyone around her feel beautiful and had the talent of great fashion on a budget.  Let’s work together to keep her legacy alive and make every student feel beautiful.
