Press Release

Ground Breaking Ceremony Scheduled for Fort Mohave Boys & Girls Club!

Fort Mohave, AZ., Boys & Girls Club breaks ground and kicks off fundraising campaign with a generous donation from Los Matadores.
In partnership with the BBHS Legacy Foundation and Fiesta Bowl Charities, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Colorado River will bring a new Boys & Girls Club to the Fort Mohave area, complete with a playground, sport court, and a football field!  “The Board of Directors is very excited about the expansion of our organization into the Fort Mohave area.  This has been a goal of the organization for more than two decades, and it will serve a community that is in dire need of after-school and summer programs for the youth of the community.” Matt Hanrahan Boys & Girls Club Board Chairman.
The groundbreaking will occur on Thursday, October 21st, with refreshments at 2:30 pm and the presentation at 3:00 pm.  The public is invited to celebrate with the Club and see architectural drawings showing the future campus.
The Clubhouse will be 5,000 square feet with three classrooms, a games room, a lobby, and offices.  The facility will be on 8 acres on the southeast corner of La Riqueza Rd. and Aztec in Fort Mohave. “The location is ideal, centrally located in Fort Mohave, off the highway and close to several residential neighborhoods. We are thrilled to be where we can assist parents by providing a safe place for out-of-school hours, giving youth a safe place to grow into young adults” Gilbert Herrera Fort Mohave Unit Director.  Beyond the Clubhouse, the property will house a 2,500sqft playground, a 3,100 sqft sport court, and a football field.  The outdoor spaces are a collaboration between the BHHS Legacy Foundation Fiesta Bowl Charities.
The total project budget for the Club and outdoor space is estimated to be $1,800,000.  Contributions from the BHHS Legacy Foundation-$825k, Fiesta Bowl Charities-$325k, AZ Lottery-$15,000, US Bank- $5,000, and the Club’s contribution from mainly thrift store profits of $108k bring the project within $500k of completion.
Los Matadores was the first community organization to step up with a financial contribution for the Fort Mohave Club.  After learning about the scale and scope of the project and how beneficial it will be to the entire community, Los Matadores voted to contribute $40,000 to the project.  We hope that this sparks further generosity from other community groups and the community as a whole.
The Club is working with several grantors and organizations to cover the $500,000 shortfall.  Even with generous grants,  support from the community will be instrumental in bringing this dream to a reality.  Once it is complete, the Club will be such a huge asset to the entire community.  Donations for the Fort Mohave Club Project can be dropped off at any of our current locations, mailed in to 2250 Highland Rd. Bullhead AZ 86442, or  completed online at www.Clubriver.org.
