Enrollment for summer classes now open at MCC

A lot of students are looking forward to the end of the semester and summer break, and summer is also a great time to take a class at MCC.

Summer classes help cut down the time it takes to get a college degree, and many people find it is a good time to take prerequisite classes, such as those required for completing the college health and nursing programs.

“In eight weeks, students can complete a course that can take 15 weeks during the fall or spring semester,” said MCC Chief of Instruction Stephen Eaton.

Many of the college summer classes also fulfill the Arizona General Education Curriculum, AGEC.

MCC offers classes this summer that are included in the AGEC University transfer packages, including Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, Education, Math and more.

To find a full list of classes offered at MCC this summer just head to the Course Search section of the website. Then, move the drop down bar to Summer 2018-2019.

“Students in our region will not only get a jump start on getting finishing college, they’re going to save thousands of dollars by taking the classes right here at home,” said MCC President Dr. Diana Stithem.

Taking classes at MCC costs $81 per credit hour.  By comparison a student would pay anywhere from $490 to $633 per credit hour at one of the state universities, according to university websites.  Students taking an AGEC course requirement at MCC can have the credits transferred to a university and save around thousand dollars on just one class alone.

“It’s important to many students to keep up their grade point average, so this is also a good time to take a course that may seem difficult, so you can focus exclusively on that one class during the summer,” said Dr. Stithem.

Students who successfully complete the AGEC at MCC will have all those courses transfer as a block to ASU, NAU and UA.  If you complete it with a 2.5 GPA or better, you will be automatically guaranteed admission to ASU, NAU, and UA.

It’s also an opportunity to take classes that fill up quickly during the fall and spring semesters.

“For example, science classes are some of those that fill up fast during the other semesters, so now is a great time to sign up because we still have open seats available for summer,” said Eaton.

Registration for summer and fall classes.  Summer classes start May 28.  Fall classes start August 26. You can get more information from a college representative online at mohave.edu, or on the phone by calling 1-866-MOHAVECC.
