CRUHSD BOARD NARROWS
SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH TO TWO FINALISTS

BULLHEAD CITY – The Colorado River Union High School District (CRUHSD) governing board voted unanimously late Tuesday night to narrow the search for a new school superintendent to two finalists.  The two, one from Arizona and one from South Dakota, will return next week for more interviews and community forums.
Todd Flora, an education program specialist with the Arizona Department of Education’s satellite office in Flagstaff, and Timothy Mayclin, superintendent of the Kimball School District in South Dakota, were among five semifinalists interviewed by the board over two nights.  There were a dozen applicants for the position.
“We interviewed five excellent candidates,” said board president Lori Crampton.  “We appreciate the time and energy of each one.”
Flora has an extensive educational background, including serving as a county school superintendent in New Jersey, before moving to Arizona.  Mayclin is a long-time educator with 20 years in the classroom.  He was also a school administrator in Minnesota.  Both have been vetted by the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA), which has been contracted by CRUHSD to help with the recruitment and interview process.
Next Monday and Tuesday (March 25 and 26), candidates will tour campuses, meet with employees, answer questions from an advisory panel of community leaders, and participate in three community stakeholder forums and meet-and-greets open to the general public.  Community meet and greets will be held at both Mohave High School in Bullhead City and River Valley High School in Mohave Valley.
The schedule is posted on the District’s website, www.crsk12.org, and Facebook page, @crsk12az.
Board members are scheduled to select the new superintendent either March 26 or March 27 after a final round of interviews next Tuesday night.  Following contract negotiations, the new superintendent is expected to start on or before the new fiscal year, July 1, replacing Superintendent Benje Hookstra, who is retiring.  This search is separate from one being conducted by the Bullhead City Elementary School District governing board.  Although the two districts have a shared services intergovernmental agreement, the BCESD board has opted to return to having its own superintendent.  However, the two will be expected to work together on many issues.
