County Commission issues COVID mitigation measures, some effective midnight July 21

Yesterday, the Clark County Commission met during an emergency meeting to address rising COVID-19 cases in the Las Vegas area and voted to implement mitigation measures attempting to address recent COVID-19 infection rates.

After receiving reports provided by public health experts during the meeting, the Commissioners unanimously approved the following measures:

  • Masks will be required to be worn by all employees who work within indoor public spaces for any business operating within Clark County effective midnight July 21 until August 17 at which point the measure will be reevaluated by the County.
  • County businesses will be required to post signage, if not already posted, letting people know that masks are recommended as COVID-19 cases are increasing throughout the community. Effective July 21 midnight.
  • The County will require businesses outlined with the SNHD’s recent notice to provide the County’s business license department with a plan regarding how they are striving to create safe work environments to prevent employees from contracting COVID-19. The County discussed requesting that plans are submitted by the August 17 County Commission meeting. Sectors outlined within SNHD’s announcement includes those with crowded public settings and venues (more than 250 people), as well as grocery stores, malls, large events, and casinos (large hospitality). The County cited that plans will be kept confidential. No further details have yet been provided regarding details needed within plan submissions.

The County Commission also requested that SNHD return to a future meeting to provide further recommendations about how to mitigate COVID-19 case counts should they continue to increase.

The meeting occurred several days after the Southern Nevada Health District issued recommendations for people to wear masks in indoor public spaces even if they have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Ultimately, during the meeting, County Commissioners expressed the desire for more residents to become COVID-19 vaccinated. Vaccine resources can be found at Immunize Nevada.
