Clark County Parks and Recreation Helped Spread Halloween Cheer with Neighborhood Caravans

Clark County Parks and Recreation helped some families enjoy socially distanced trick or treating with its “Honk or Treat” neighborhood caravan.  In the past two weeks, the department randomly selected two neighborhoods surrounding County recreation centers.  A caravan was led including Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department vehicles, a Clark County Fire Department Engine and Clark County Parks and Recreation vehicles.  One of the Parks and Recreation vehicles was equipped with a sound system playing seasonal music by a DJ.  Costumed staff from all groups involved passed out Halloween cheer and candy.  Residents along the routes where the caravan visits had flyers placed on their property, announcing route information beforehand.

In a two-week span, a total of 7,277 homes were visited distributing almost 17,000 bags of candy.  Clark County Parks and Recreation partnered with the Findlay Automotive Group, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Commissioner Michael Naft and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to provide candy.  All left over candy was donated to Child Haven, Sunrise Children’s Hospital, People Autism Foundation and department Safekey sites.

“This year parents were asked to avoid Halloween parties and taking their children ‘Trick or Treating’,” said Daniel Hernandez, Clark County Parks and Recreation Director, “our department decided that if children could not go door to door to celebrate, we would do our best to bring the spirt of the holiday to them.”
