Christopher Minard with the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation recognized October Veteran Employee of the Month
 
Carson City, NV – The Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation (DETR) is pleased to announce Workforce Service Representative III for Disabled Veterans Outreach Programs in Elko and Ely, Christopher Minard, as the State of Nevada’s Employee Veteran of the Month for October of 2022. Minard spends most of his time assisting Veterans with Significant Barriers to Employment (SBE) and working with the Career Enhancement Program in Elko. He has been with DETR since March of 2018, starting out as a Workforce Services Representative I and moving into the DVOP position in June of 2019.
 
Minard Enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2006 and served in the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division until 2010, where he was trained in both Field Artillery Fire Control and as a Noncommissioned Civil Affairs Officer.  Deployed overseas, he supported Operation Iraqi Freedom in central Iraq in 2008 and 2009. 
 
“Chris is an incredible asset and I provide his contact information to every single Veteran I come in contact with,” said John Greene, VA School Certifying Official at Great Basin College Elko campus. “He is a great person to be around and has a very calming influence with dealing with Veterans,” said Greene.
 
Minard is responsible for assisting SBE Veterans in an area encompassing over 26,000 square miles, covering all of Elko and White Pine Counties and was an integral part of the EmployNV Business and Career Hub in Elko first ever Veterans Action Team (VAT).  Minard also helps at-risk youth groups, incarcerated Veterans nearing their release dates and those on probation gain meaningful employment, sharing insight on how to apply and interview for jobs and succeed in a career.
