It's never too early to start nominating people for our 22nd Annual Community Achievement Awards which will be held Saturday, October 26th, 2019.

Far too often, when it gets closer to the actual event, people try to remember who they wanted to nominate, but cannot remember.

Every time you encounter a person, business, or organization that deserves consideration and recognition, NOMINATE THEM!

The general categories are below for you to read and think about who would fit them, but ultimately the Chamber will decide which category to put them in.

If there is any local business or community member that you would like to nominate for special recognition and consideration for our Community Achievement Awards, please click the link below. It will only take a couple minutes of your time, and it will mean so much to the person or business you nominate.

The nominees can be small businesses, large businesses, and even people in the community who go above and beyond in their desire to help others as well as the community, students entering their senior year of high school and students who excel with their grades, extracurricular activities, giving back to the community, etc.

Categories that we are looking for are shown below, however the Chamber will decide which category the individual or business belongs in. Thank you!

Citizen of the Year Award: This is the highest honor, and is awarded to an individual who fits into many of the other categories but is deserving of much more. The person selected for this top honor can be anyone who has contributed selflessly to the Colorado River Region, donating time, money, resources and/or public service work. This exceptional person sets an example for people of all ages, and has achieved significant respect both personally and professionally from their peers. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize someone who continually works to improve the quality of life in our communities.

The Connie Davis Youth Citizen of the Year Award: This award recognizes young leaders in their senior year of high school who exhibit civic pride through involvement in community projects or clubs/organizations, volunteer work, or extracurricular activities while maintaining a 2.0 GPA or higher. Extracurricular activities may include debate club, drama, and/or participation in the arts. The winning nominee will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and the other three final nominees will each receive a $500 scholarship to be used at the college or vocational school of their choice. *Nominees must graduate from a High School in the Colorado River Region. Scholarships are only payable until the end of 2019.

Young Wonder Award: This award recognizes a young volunteer, mentor, inventor or entrepreneur, an underclassman, who is focused on the betterment of the community, dedicated to giving back and is a lobbyist for change. This young person is devoted to community service, donating their time and talents to community events, clubs, social organizations, schools etc. while maintaining a 2.0 GPA or higher. The top young achiever in this category shows extraordinary passion and commitment to the cause(s) they champion.

Educator of the Year Award: This award is given to an exceptional educator who is employed in one of our Colorado River Region Schools. This educator has a real passion for mentoring and educating, and instills a spirit of intellectual curiosity, innovation and competitiveness into their students. 

Lloyd Shires Tourism Award: This award is reserved for an individual who has positively impacted the tourism industry in the tri-state area, and includes people who are employed with the hotels, motels, resorts and casinos and transportation or travel services industries. Special consideration is given to those who go above and beyond the duties of their employment, giving their time and energy to enhance our number one industry. Recognition of front-line customer service professionals is encouraged.

Public Service Award: This award is for an individual who is passionate about bettering their community and is compensated for their efforts. It honors law enforcement, firefighters, emergency service workers, city council members, city or county staff members, department heads or paid elected or appointed positions representing the Colorado River Region.

Humanitarian Award: This award is for a person(s) who is focused on the betterment of the community. They do not have to belong to an organization, and they do not have to be part of a non-profit group however, this award is also open to a local volunteer dedicated to serving on community or civic boards such as ad hoc committees, town boards, planning and zoning, parks and recs, public safety, and various other government or non-profit boards. This person is dedicated to community service, donating their time, talents and money to not-for-profit organizations. The top achiever in this category shows extraordinary passion and commitment to the cause(s) they champion. 

Entrepreneur Award: This award honors the person of a business who succeeds through risk and initiative – and who is willing to take a chance and attempts to make a positive impact on the business world in the Colorado River Region.

Communications Award: This award is reserved for an individual or a business. It honors those in public relations, broadcasting or journalism that have made significant contributions in their field of endeavor in the Colorado River Region.

Green Business of the Year Award: This award recognizes the importance of creating a green, environmentally friendly model in business operations. This business utilizes a strategy (or strategies) fostering energy efficiency, energy sustainability, recycling and/or reutilization programs.

Small Business of the Year Award (Less than 100 employees): This award honors one for-profit business providing a much-needed service to the area, making outstanding contributions to the community, and/or setting an example for other businesses to follow.

Large Business of the Year Award (Over 100 employees): This award honors one for-profit business providing a much-needed service to the area, making outstanding contributions to the community, and/or setting an example for other businesses to follow.

Community and Social Service Organization Award: This award is for an active non-profit organization or subsidiary that directly provides necessary services for our citizens of the Colorado River Region. Consideration is given to organizations providing valuable resources and enhancing the quality of life for program participants.
